We love a destination wedding here at Festival Brides and this one is absolutely no exception! Simone and Steven celebrated their wedding at Kampeerterrein de Lievelinge in the Netherlands last summer with a festival, fairy-tale style wedding captured by the masterful Renate van Djik at Wit Photography.  The couple ‘glamped’ it up with over 150 guests during this extraordinary 3-day celebration which featured a vintage spiegeltent (a 19th-century European mirror tent), a rustic blue VW bus and scrumptious Italian-style woodoven pizzas. An impressive fusion of authentic and modern European styling with a truly captivating vibe, this destination wedding certainly paints a very pretty picture…

For us, the most important thing was that all the guests were able to stay over at the venue. We love to be around our friends and family, so what’s better than to start the weekend together the day before the wedding, and to be able to chat to everybody the day after!

City Proposal on Rotterdam Rooftop….

The day before our 9th year anniversary, Steven arranged a surprise ride on the water taxi in our home city Rotterdam, followed by dinner in an Italian restaurant. At midnight, Steven asked me to come to the roof terrace of our apartment in the middle of the city. And there he was…. with a bouquet of red, pink and white roses, the sweetest words and a beautiful ring.

A Unique Glamping Hideout With Precious Childhood Memories

We were looking for a venue where all our guests (150!) could sleep. After a long search on the internet, we found Kampeerterrein de Lievelinge – a unique ‘glamping’ spot with the most amazing tents and houses. After some research on the website we even found out that I used to camp on this campsite when I was a child. So already the campsite had some very special memories for me….

Sunset at the Lake, Vegetarian BBQ and a Beautiful 3-day Celebration

We had camping for around 45 guests who arrived on the Friday before the wedding for a big veggie barbecue on the campsite. We watched an amazing sunset at the lake that night, listened to some music and had a spontaneous mini dance party! After the wedding on Saturday, a lot of friends and family camped over and on Sunday we had a big hangover breakfast…..

Arrived in style to a rustic and personalised festival-style reception

We had a vintage royal blue VW camper at the wedding, handmade personalised piñatas with our faces on them and a great variety of food organised and prepared by the venue. It was so much fun, not to mention the funfair carousel which really made the day totally unique!

Homemade tissues and heart-shaped, flower-seeded confetti……

A lot was homemade, the tissues with little cards with ‘For your happy tears’ during the church for example. Our bridesmaids made little bags with flower confetti in them. In the heart shaped confetti, there were flower seeds. So next season, there will be flowers growing where we were married. My bridal bouquet was made up of individual flowers, each bought by every one of our guests.

Fun on the carousel….

Magical first dance to Snoop Dogg

Our first dance was to ‘Magic’ by Coldplay, followed by ‘Drop it Like it’s Hot’ by Snoop Dogg. Magic was my choice because of the lyrics which really remind me of our relationship. Steven was ‘forced’ to choose a song to actually dance to, so he chose Snoop Dogg. Nobody knows why, and he forgot the choreography! But hey, it got the party started!

Favourite Moment….

Every moment! After the amazing start with our veggie barbecue on Friday evening, I told one of my bridesmaids in the morning: ”I don’t need this day anymore. I already have everything!” Well, now we really do have everything! It was an amazing roller coaster of a day. And one of our favourite moments has to be the carousel.

Any Advice?

Make it personal! We asked a lot of friends and family to help with the preparations. For instance, a friend designed our invitations, another friend made our bouquet and the wedding cakes were made by Stevens father, our sister-in-law and two friends. It really get’s friends and family excited about the wedding and it’s so much fun to use something that is made with so much love. And another good thing: it saves you a lot of money!

Take your time for a shoot with the two of you and people that are really close to you, for instance, three of our best friends went with us to take photo’s and to help with the dress. We started the day so relaxed! Don’t invest too much time in group pictures…we never used them!
