Stylish, elegant, modern and sophisticated are the four main words I would use to describe London based Lilac & White’s beautiful bohemian personalised wedding and event stationery. In a world where stationery can often become over designed and cluttered, Lilac & White strive to keep things simple, clear and calm allowing the other aspects of your wedding to shine through.
Choose from their extensive range of save the dates, invitations, name placements, menu cards, table plans and thank you cards, all printed on textured card supplied from the finest paper manufacturers in the UK.
Not only do Lilac & White supply beautiful stationery but they also offer excellent customer service. We have personally found Paula, the talent behind Lilac & White, a pleasure to deal with since she introduced us to her gorgeous company last year. Our aim at Festival Brides is to introduce you to wedding suppliers that you can trust and enjoy working with and Paula most definitely meets the grade.
As part of our Festival Brides Love series, we asked the lovely Paula all about her business, her stationery designs and what she can offer you for your wedding….
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
Lilac & White are London based wedding stationers whose vision and ambition is to bring calm and clear design to the wedding experience and beyond. The company was born after seeing lots of stationery on the market over-designed with too much pattern and illustrated content. Our stationery strips things back and is simple in style, letting the beauty of the wedding do the talking. All our stationery is printed on beautiful textured card and our envelopes come from the finest paper manufacturers in the UK. We know it’s those little details that really give a unique look to your day and we get so excited in creating some stunning pieces for customers.
If you had the chance to go to any music festival, which one would it be?
Oooo – good question! Wilderness or Shambala – I feel like these encourage a more elaborate dress sense – which is good! And I have two kids now, so they are good for families.
What made you decide to start your beautiful stationery business, Lilac and White?
I was a freelance corporate graphic designer for years, working to tight deadlines and being on the end of the phone at any hour. I then had a baby and realised exactly what I wanted to do with my skills so I set up an online shop for wedding stationery after really enjoying designing some bits for friend’s weddings. We always get thanked by couples of how quick we turn our stationery around and respond to queries, so I’m proud of that (something good has come from the corporate experience!). All our customers are so lovely, I get to work with gorgeous excited couples (and sometimes parents of the bride!) every day and it’s a real treat!
How would you best describe your design style?
Sophisticated and understated elegance with a twist of bohemian. We use muted colours and simple layouts to achieve this.
Tell us a little bit more about your collections and the design process behind them?
We’re always researching new fonts to work with – calligraphy style is very ‘in’ this year. Then we usually couple them with timeless fonts that are firm favourites. We also keep our colour palettes simple so that the stationery will more easily compliment a wedding style. We refer back to a record of customer requests as well when designing new suites.
If our readers wanted you to create a bespoke design, what can they expect?
Although our website has off-the shelf stationery templates ready to be purchased, we regularly get customers asking for something more bespoke, e.g. if they can adapt the colour to match their bridesmaid dresses or put the seating plan in alphabetical order or if they can pull certain elements from a couple of designs they have found themselves. Either way, we work closely with them to achieve their desired look.
In all cases, whether customers have purchased straight from the website or got in touch with us direct for something bespoke, we usually do a couple of rounds of amendments going back and forth with the customer until they are happy with their wording and layout before the stationery is printed.
Here are a few testimonials from clients who had bespoke stationery pieces created with us.
“Patient and understanding! Lilac & White are just what you need when planning a wedding. We had bespoke invitations created in Polish and the design and execution didn’t let us down. Beautiful, simple and elegant – we are delighted with the final result and will be purchasing more items from them. You won’t regret your choice.” Erin Leahy
“I wanted to write and say a huge thank you for your contributions to what was my perfect day on Saturday. More than once you came to the rescue and turned around incredible wedding invites and then the seating plan which looked absolutely stunning. Lilac and White are a wonderful company and the kind nature of you and your colleagues shines through into the work you produce. I cannot thank you enough and we will continue to use Lilac and White in the future.” Ella Boobyer
“So beautiful … we absolutely love our wedding invitations! L&W are fantastic to work with! They helped us find the perfect font colour to match our wedding colours and were very patient and quick to respond as we made updates to the wording. Everything arrived to us quickly and it was packaged beautifully. You won’t be disappointed … definitely a gem of a place! :)” Erica Berg
“We asked Lilac & White to design our wedding invitations for us – and we weren’t disappointed! They were so patient with tweaking the design so that we were absolutely happy with it – they dispatched promptly once we had finalised everything, and we were astounded with the quality of the invites. The card and envelopes were of excellent quality and they looked even better in real life than on the computer. Thank you Lilac & White – we will certainly be purchasing your work in the future! Matt and Ella
We see you offer a gift section on your website, can you tell us a bit more about this?
We’re adding new products all the time! Last year, we kept a list of what customers repeatedly asked for. E.g. wax seals, printed envelopes to go with their stationery so we have added bits like this for 2018 to our shop. As well as wedding stationery, we’re branching out to personalised gifts so that our lovely customers can get some inspiration and ideas for weddings and events they’re attending themselves. We’ve got some deckle edge prints coming out and our correspondence cards proved popular at Christmas. Absolutely any of our products can be customised further.
What stationery trends are set to be big in 2018?
Calligraphy! And blush and grey colour schemes. It’s expensive to hire a calligrapher to write place cards and write on table plans, so we bridge the gap by being able to imitate calligraphy with some stunning script fonts, making it more affordable for the couples who want that luxurious feel without blowing the budget.
What’s your best piece of advice for couples when it comes to choosing their wedding stationery?
Good question! You can spend hours looking for the right thing, but just keep things simple – you can never go wrong with an uncomplicated style, as Leonardo Da Vinci said ‘simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication”.
Finally, what’s your life quote/motto at The Lilac and White?
Our studio mantra for this year is “a little progress everyday adds up to big results”. I suppose you could apply this to planning a wedding!
