Morning Lovely People and Happy Friday! I hope you have all had a great week and are looking forward to the weekend. Some of you may even have viewings of wedding venues planned. If so then you might want to add today’s Festival Brides Love featured supplier to the list! Huntsmill Farm is a gorgeous wedding venue in Buckinghamshire that is perfect for a festival style wedding. It consists of a soon to be licensed traditional stone barn which is surrounded by meadows and stunning countryside views. It also has 7 self catering cottages onsite that can sleep up to 38 people. The best part about it is the owners give you the freedom to use your own suppliers and dress the venue how you wish – something that is becoming increasingly rare in the UK.
We asked the owners of Hunstmill Farm, Henry and Ruth, a few questions about their farm, why they turned it into a wedding vneue and their new converted barn.
Tell us a little bit about yourselves?
There are 6 of us in the family business at the farm. My mum and dad who still run the farm and the accommodation. Then there is myself and my wife (Henry and Ruth) and we established and run the weddings as well as taking more of a role in the accommodation as time goes on. We have a daughter Hazel and a son Barnaby (21 months and 3 months respectively). We hope they will take over eventually and keep the family business running (and look after their mum and dad). Finally, there are several dogs and one cat which mainly act to help sell the place to prospective couples when they visit.
What made you decide to turn your gorgeous farm in Buckinghamshire into a wedding venue?
Since 2001 we have been celebrating all kinds of occasions with family and friends at Huntsmill Farm. Following some very successful events we decided to launch an official business in 2012 and Huntsmill Farm Weddings was born! My wife and I got married there ourselves in 2014 and had such an amazing day. We hope to recreate that for all our couples who choose us as their venue.
We have seen that you are currently converting your barn so it can be used for weddings. Can you tell us a bit more about this space and when it will be ready?
It is almost finished and is available for bookings in 2018 and beyond!
After several years running weddings in our own traditional rope and pole marquee we decided to convert the remaining barn in the courtyard, adjacent to our self-catering accommodation. The barn is a traditional stone barn with gorgeous oak beams and a stunning window in the old hay loft door. It has a smart but rustic vibe with lots of traditional features. The barn is suitable for up to 120 people, is fully accessible and once finished will be licensed for ceremonies.
All chairs, tables and PA system are provided but as a DIY venue, you are free to choose your own suppliers (caterers need to be from our list of recommended suppliers).
Exclusive hire is for three days from Friday to Sunday so you can come in and dress the venue on Friday and have time to clear up on the Sunday without the time pressure you find at many venues.
The gardens are available to our guests and make a truly picturesque backdrop. Our traditional red phone box is always popular for photos with our couples and their guests! Couples often hire street food vans for evening food which helps relax the mood before the dancing kicks off.
Is there accommodation available at your venue?
We have seven self-catering cottages which provide space for 28-38 people in total.
Three cottages are included in the wedding package.
If our readers were to book with you, what can they expect?
We love to hear from couples about what they are planning and can help in recommending anything from suppliers through to how to fix their bunting up. On average couples visit the venue 2/3 times before their wedding day to take measurements, see more of the accommodation, check their decorations fit or just show the parents around. We don’t provide an official planning service but we do know that it is beneficial for both you and us to know what is going on. On the weekend of the wedding we will carry out a handover with the couples and after that are ‘on call’ for emergencies, etc. until Midnight on Saturday.
“Thank you for letting us use such a lovely location, it was a magical weekend…we would love to do it all again.” – Hayley,May 2016
“Thank you for all your time both at the weekend and in the run up to the wedding, we really appreciated it and all the guests loved the venue.” – Emma & Kyle, June 2016
How do couples know if Huntsmill Farm is right for them?
It’s a DIY venue so you need to be prepared to plan. We won’t project manage your wedding for you but will of course assist you in any way we can. The barn is a blank canvas for you to get creative with so have fun!
What’s your best piece of advice for couples who’re trying to choose their wedding venue?
Remember that its your day, so really choose what YOU want and what suits you as a couple.
What are some of your favourite memories from previous weddings/couples you have worked with?
I guess it’s the weddings where the couples and their families were happy. Not just in the photos but genuinely happy. Happy to be here, happy to have their friends and family around and sharing a good time. Not thinking of every last detail but just letting their suppliers get on and do their thing while they are enjoying their day.
