We wanted to get married near Brighton as this is where we lived in the early years of meeting and falling in love – it really holds such good memories for us and we hope to move back there some day.
Straw Ring Festival Proposal
Stevie’s proposal was amazing! It was at End of the Road festival in Dorset. Flaming Lips had just played the main stage and he brought me to the woodland part of the festival were the trees were covered in fairy lights. There was a duo band doing a little impromptu gig so he asked them if they would play some romantic songs when he proposed. Stevie hadn’t bought a ring at this point so he made a temporary ring using a piece of straw which he’d got from the man who had been demonstrating how to make thatch roofs earlier that day! He put the straw ring on a log to get down on one knee. It’s safe to say that the straw ring didn’t last too long!
Instagram Dress Inspiration
Anais Anette was the designer who made my dress. I found this dress on her Instagram page and instantly fell in love with it. The only place in the UK that sold the dress was a boutique called LA Bespoke Bridal in Worcester. I live in London so my very kind friends and I took a trek up to Worcester one day – I loved it even more when I put it on so it was it wasn’t a wasted trip. My shoes were Carvella and my headpiece was by a designer called Luna Bea, which was sold in LA Bespoke. I wore my grandmother pearl earrings. Not only was it very important for me to have something of hers with me, as she passed away when I was a teenager, but it was also my something old and borrowed.
Bell Tent Village and Giant Tipi
We were married in a beautiful church near Preston Park. Conveniently, there was a pub across the road from the church, so everyone went there for a quick celebratory drink before heading to the venue. Our wedding venue was on a beautiful estate in East Sussex. It had a lake and stables on the grounds. We had views of the South Downs on one side and beautiful countryside on the other.
We setup a bell tent village in the field next to the big Tipi. It was so much fun waking up in a field with all our friends and family around us. The Bell Tent Company did a great job kitting out everyone bell tent to make our guest as comfortable as possible. We had a three hat tipi supplied by a company called Timber and Canvas. The Tipi’s were amazing!
Church Draped In Lavender
As we were going for something a bit different with our venue we want to have a bit of a traditional element to the day so we decide to have a church wedding. It couldn’t have been more perfect. My very talented friend Nikki was our florist. She did a beautiful job decorating the church with tied-up dried lavender. She also placed milk churns filled with beautiful colourful flower for the outside of the church.
It took us a long time to find our photographers and we wanted our photos to be less set up shots and more natural of everyone enjoying themselves, so we were very happy when we found the Benni Carol Photography website. The girls are very friendly and professional, we hardly even noticed they were there on the day be they got some amazing snaps and I don’t think they could have done a better job.
Picnic Benches and Deckchairs on the Lake
We wanted our day to be as relaxed as possible. Our Tipi was facing a beautiful lake so we set up picnic benches and deckchairs which looking the beautiful view. We pinned up our family photos up around the trees to represent our family tree. We had a lot of sharing platters for the dinner so we needed our table arrangements to be easily moved when the food came out. I decided to have lots of little milk bottles scattered around the tables with beautiful delicate flowers in them and also set out tea lights in little jars. Each table was named after each place Stevie and I have lived together since we meet. Tangled up in Blooms was our florist; Nikki did a fantastic job bring colour to our day. Our cake was made by Angel Food Bakery Brighton.
We were going to have Flaming Lips, ‘Do you realise’. Everyone was already on the floor dancing and having fun dancing to our friends playing that we didn’t want to stop the fun so our first dance ended up being ‘Jackson’ by Jonny Cash. Our friend Amy and Stevie played a few songs to get the party warmed up and then my uncle did a little impromptu gig for us. Our friend Matt was our DJ.
I absolutely loved the church ceremony. It was so special to have my family and friends around us, sharing our special moment. The music, atmosphere and the love was emotional.
Just enjoy every minute of it as the year goes by in a flash.
