Happy Bank Holiday Monday gorgeous people! If you’re still lounging around in your dressing gown, sipping fresh coffee and devouring your third slice of toast, then you’ve absolutely captured the bank holiday spirit in style! So relax, put your feet up and fix your eyes on today’s fun, free-spirited, outdoor marquee wedding brought to us by the delightfully talented Peach & Jo Photography. With less than the average planning time, Bride Amelia and Groom Lee pulled off this spectacular marquee field wedding in less than 8-months. Combining soft neutrals, rustic décor and cute quirks, this wedding shouts ‘classic meets vintage’ from the rooftops! We love the mix of style and sentiment adorned by our beautiful bride. She put love and laughter at the centre of her day, making this the most chilled, stylish outdoor summer wedding to ever hit Surrey Hills. Perfectly English and perfectly poised, with just the right dose of ‘festival’, let’s hand over to Amelia to share the finer details….
We used Pinterest for inspiration and gathered ideas from various wedding fairs and online blogs. We like classic materials, soft flowers and bright décor. The perfect mix and contrast suits our personal style. We also used Formula 1 as a side-line decor theme, as we both worked at the racetrack when we met. We placed miniature toy racing cars on the tables to represent where our journey to marriage started!
A Christmas proposal with 8-months to plan!
It was Christmas Day 2015 and we’d not long moved into our new home with our little 3-month old daughter. Lee proposed on Christmas morning whilst opening our presents! As we only had around 8-months to arrange the wedding, I was struggling to find a venue available in London or North Surrey. It was a challenge to find anything that I liked at such short notice. So I ended up googling ‘Rent a Field’ and thankfully Fiesta Fields came up! We decided on Phoenice Field in the beautiful Surrey Hills. The field was rural and private, in the middle of nowhere, right at the bottom of a dirt track and over a mile from the main road. It was completely secluded and the views were incredible.
Classic meets vintage…
We got married at St Andrews Church Cobham, Surrey. Beautiful large classic church, light creams and eucalyptus flowers. We had two readings, a poem by Erin Henson called ‘Made my life an arrow’ and a bible reading – Mark 12,30-31; 10,6-9. During the signing of the register one of our ushers performed a guitar acoustic medley. We were then were driven to the reception in a brightly coloured orange and green vintage coach from Ages Past.
London taxi photo booth and firepits!
We hired a white vintage open sided marquee from Vintage Marquees and had large potted blue hydrangeas which created the path leading up to the marquee. There were long distressed wooden trestle tables laid out for our guests inside the marquee with greenery flourishing all through the centre of each. We used small coloured flowers in glass jars to brighten the centre pieces and placed little toy F1 cars on the tables for fun and sentiment (as Lee and I both worked at Formula 1 when we met!). We had big disco balls and candles spread over the tables and two huge ‘Mr’ & ‘Mrs’ white balloons behind the DJ decks . One of the feature décor highlights was the huge bar outside which we had laced with long garland flowers and huge vases of bouquets. There were bubble machines, hay bales and fire pits outside and we also hired a black London taxi photo booth that parked right outside the marquee.
Romantic eucalyptus, caramels and berries
We used One Flew Over for our flowers. I really wanted a long romantic bridal bouquet with lots of eucalyptus, caramels and berries. I gave Charlie and Jess all of my ideas and thoughts and they made everything a reality and they created everything I wanted. The bar was a very special highlight for me! My dad wrote all the place cards and table plan and our wedding invites were designed and printed by Strawberry Sorbet
Simple and understated….
I wore a Jesus Peiro dress with simple grey block- heels sandals. I had Gigi Hammond for hair and make-up. I kept the hair fairly simple and wore baby breath flowers pinned in my hair. I decided not to wear any jewellery except for my rings. Lee’s outfit was especially tailored by Reiss.
We chose Peach & Jo Photography because we loved their portfolio. We had taken a look at their work and we felt they would be the perfect photographers to capture our day. We really loved their action and movement shots, especially of our guests dancing! The photos were natural and beautifully captured, full of so much emotion. They were just amazing!
Our first dance was to Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed Sealed Delivered’. We’ve always really loved the song and the lyrics mean a lot to us.
We had an incredible brass band playing as we arrived at the reception called Dixie Saint. We could see the top of the tuba as we walked up to the marquee which was amazing! After dessert we had the Wedding Smashers who did an hour long silent disco at the end of the night. They played everything we loved and it was so much fun!
For Lee it was when I entered the church and he saw me for the first time. For me it was our first dance. At first I was dreading it so much but when it came to it I loved it! I felt like it was just me and Lee in the room and I had a moment of realisation about everything that had happened that day….
I was given some advice before my wedding and I would definitely pass the same advice on…..take time alone with your husband early before the reception even starts. Take a minute to acknowledge the union between the two of you and sit back and watch your guests having fun! On a décor note, I’d recommend to get a backdrop for the DJ area as this gives a great effect in the photos.
Oh, and if you have your wedding in a field like us, remember how dark and cold it can get, even in the summer. You will need to fill the space with lots of lighting inside and outside of the marquee!!
