If you have a bohemian heart and love the winter season most of all then you are going to love today’s shoot. Put together by Georgina of Kent wedding venue Elmley Nature Reserve and featuring the work of some of our favourite Kent suppliers, the shoots aim was to showcase the rustic beauty of Kingshill Barn, a traditional barn with a capacity for 200 people and a legal ceremony license, and the beautiful countryside it sits upon. The theme was ‘modern rustic’ with a colour scheme of green and white, all of which we think works beautifully with the natural charm of the barn.
Georgina of Elmley Nature Reserve and wedding stylist Hannah Bullivant talk us through the shoot.
Look out for the AMAZING peacock chair featured in the shoot. It was supplied by Hire Love and is available for hire for weddings and events. If only I could get married again as this chair would definitely be on my must have list!
Wild Rustic Romance in a Barn in Kent…..
Kingshill Barn, Elmley is a stunning rustic barn in the middle of a National Nature Reserve on an island. Being coastal the silver and ivory winter light and soft sunsets are magical and we really wanted to capture this.
At Elmley we also offer enchanting accommodation in shepherd’s huts and bell tents for the bridal party and guests, and so we wanted to have some fun showing the bride at the end of the night when the sun has gone down and her shoes have come off!
Rebecca Douglas our fabulous photographer knows Elmley well, having spent a couple of nights cosied up in our huts capturing sunsets and sunrises for us. And with her love of nature and wild landscapes, as well as awesome weddings, we knew that she was the perfect choice.
Having worked with Hannah Bullivant on some other things before, I had fallen head over heels with her styling and couldn’t wait to do a project with her. Her wild, romantic but modern creations really worked wonderfully in the Victorian barn.
Hannah: Having been a guest at Elmley in the past, and having fallen in love with it’s beautiful location deep in the marshes and fields of a nature reserve, I wanted to keep things fairly natural and reflective of the surroundings. I came up with a simple green and white theme and used the phrase “Modern Rustic” as a starting point. Thankfully, the florist, Helen Curtis of Blubelle Creative, cake designer, Victoria Kasler at Urban Pantry, Hire Love prop hire and the beautiful wedding dress shop The Wild Heart Bridal were all excited by the theme too, and we all got to work pulling it together; keeping things loose, romantic and natural.
Thank you also to Four Jays event hire who supplied the perfect simple cutlery and crockery.
Hannah: I wanted to keep the flowers quite loose featuring lots of green, and Helen exceeded my expectations with her delivery. I particularly love the styling of Hire Love’s exquisite chest of drawers – used as a cake table. It was a pleasure to work with Hire Love who had a great range of unusual props for me to play with, including the French shutters and chest of drawers and that fabulous peacock sofa, bells and macrame hanging featured on some of the model shots too.
We suspended five hoops of simple greenery above the table and dressed it with greenery and some simple white candles. I asked illustrator Emilie Maguin to design some menu’s and name tags too and I really love how they compliment the overall theme.
Georgina: Our gorgeous models Anya and Eleanor wore dresses chosen and styled by The Wild Bridal from their collection. The dresses were exactly what we were after, beautiful simple with a bit of a modern edge.
With perfect, soft boho make-up from Katy at the Bridal Stylists complementing the dresses, they glowed in the twinkling bar candlelight and against that beautiful sunset.
