Stick It On started out as a humble Brighton club night over 10 years ago, with only one single mandate – ‘To empower the many which had been held by the few.’ Rob and Karim were frustrated, and a little bit annoyed, that DJing had become so elitist that clubland had suddenly got way too serious. Both were party DJs who loved good music whichever genre it came from. They played everywhere from pubs to small clubnights and house parties, but what was clear to them was how much fun getting behind the decks and playing music to people could be.
The feeling of sharing this and rebelling against the ‘Superstar DJ’ phenomenon, that at the time was sweeping the nation, inspired them to become the antithesis of all that stood for. Together they put on their first clubnight, essentially to a bunch of their friends, but this was the beginning of Stick It On.
The night was split into 15 minute slots for each person Stickin’ It On. It was open to anyone who fancied giving it a go. All they had to do was choose some of their favourite tunes (4/5 songs) they wished to play to rock the dancefloor.
No DJ experience was necessary as a technical helper (Rob) was close on hand to guide everyone through the whole process. It gave everyone the chance to put some sun in peoples hearts, rock the dancefloor, shake what your mama gave ya and enjoy yourself – pure and simple.
That was the start of an idea that has far exceeded everybody’s expectations. Over the years, Stick It On has played in every major city in the country and had nights in New York, Singapore and Sydney. Additionally, it has also featured at Glastonbury, Bestival, Big Chill and Lovebox to name but a few festival appearances, and is now becoming a very popular choice for wedding entertainment and corporate events.
The format works on many levels but none more so than at weddings, as Stick It On offers couples something totally unique and personal to their celebrations.
By inviting the guests to submit playlists, they can ensure that there is a little something that appeals to everyone. With such a range of ages and tastes, friends and family can deliver a rollercoaster musical journey that spans decades of popular hits: in short, you set and control both the pace and direction of the night. The musical choices will always be emotive and pertinent: some may take you on a quick jaunt down memory lane, while others will simply make you shake that tail feather baby!
What’s more, you and your guests actually get the opportunity to grace the stage and play before an adoring audience of family and friends. It’s simply a chance for people that love music to share their favourite choons with the people closest to them.
Isn’t this just the best idea ever… I’m so booking them for my wedding!! Such a great alternative to the traditional first dance -Get behind the decks!!
