Happy Monday Peeps!
I’m suffering a bit from the wedding blues today as my gorgeous big sister got married on Saturday! I know I am completely biased but it was the best wedding I’ve ever been too! It was chilled, very personal and the atmosphere couldn’t have been better. She’s off in Thailand now probably relaxing on a gorgeous beach but I just want to say a HUGE congratulations to both my sister and my new brother in law – your day was amazing and I can’t wait to relive it again when you get back!
I was going to share with you their first dance for today’s Independent Love Song, but as we might feature their wedding in the future I’m keeping shtum for now (it’s a gooden though!) Instead, I thought it was about time we had another music legend gracing our pages with their distinctive sound and bluesy jazz music.
Tom Wait’s voice was once described by critic Daniel Durchholz as sounding “like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car.” He’s sound is coarse but so uniquely cool!
I have to admit that I don’t love every Tom Waits song as his style can be quite difficult to listen too and understand – however his early stuff is pure class, especially Little Trip to Heaven. When I typed this song into you tube, the comments about what the song meant to people were awesome – this one in particular made me smile:
“I met a boy in 1998 and he used to sing this to me nose to nose, eye to eye. He had the most beautiful voice and he sang like he meant every word. I couldn’t help but fall in love with such a wonderful person. Fourteen years later, two gorgeous children and 12 years of marriage under our belt he still mouths the words to me across the room – occassionally – when the children aren’t looking!”
I think its safe to say that Little Trip to Heaven would be the perfect choice for an alternative first dance love song.
Enjoy lovely people…………..
