I can’t tell you how stoked I am to be introducing (and majorly crushin’ on!) this company this morning!
Festival Brides, meet Big Chief Tipis.
If y’all are looking for an amazing company to help facilitate, organise and just all round ACE your tipi wedding, they’re your people! So without any further ado, I’ll hand over to the lovely Hayley to tell us all that the Big Chief has to offer!
Tell us a little about yourself…
My name is Hayley Harthern and I’m 29 years old, living in Manchester, with my Westie, Coco. I’ve worked in the events industry for the past 10 years and absolutely love it – I believe you should do what you’re good and so far that moto has worked!
If you had a chance to go to any music festival, which one would it be?
I’d love to go to Coachella, so that will be a trip to save up for! But closer to home I’ve always wanted to go to Festival No.6 but its always clashed one way or another with an event. This year however we have our Big Chief Tipis in the boutique area, so I’m definitely going to be there!
What made you decide to start Big Chief Tipis?
I absolutely love weddings and the outdoors and launching a tipi hire business embraces both of those elements. My father actually manufactures the tipis for hire companies throughout the UK and we were getting so many enquiries that it just made sense for me to join the family business and launch a new brand dedicated to turning dreams into memories.
Tell us a little bit more about your Tipis…
We are a family-run, tipi hire business based in Manchester, supplying large tipis for outdoor weddings, parties and festivals throughout the whole of the UK, but specialising in the Lancashire and Cheshire areas. We launched last September and have had a fantastic year working on Michelle Keegan’s wedding, James Martin’s Christmas dinner party, Glastonbury festival’s glamping village and over 40 weddings!
We pride ourselves on offering a personable, practical approach to arranging your outdoor wedding and we have a reputation for attention to detail and being a little quirky! We know that your Big Day is an opportunity for you to express you and your partner’s personalities together, so we will always tailor make your quotation to be specific to you – not one wedding is the same as another and this is why we love our job.
As we have three different sizes of tipis, which can all be interlinked, we can cater for a small intimate affair of just 12 people, all the way up to a bonanza for over 500 people. We have had designed a range of custom made exclusive-to-Big Chief Tipis entrance ways to cater for both summer and winter weddings, so that whatever the weather, you can party on in style. We have a number of fantastic venues we can call on if you don’t have your own plot of land handy, and we can deal with all the ‘boring bits’ too such as toilets, heaters and generators.
What are some of your favourite memories + experiences from previous couples you’ve worked with?
The best bit is the excitement our clients feel on that last week running up to their wedding at the weekend – it is contagious and we can’t help but feel it too! A lot of our brides like to DIY their table centres, table plans, bunting and so on, so every single element of their wedding has been painstakingly made every weekend with their friends and family over the last year or more. It is heart-warming to see a bride & grooms ‘Inner Wedding Circle’ (or IWC I like to call it!) all pitching in the day before to help dress the tipis with all of these fantastic ideas that would have Pinterest swooning over! We can’t wait to see the pictures post event to see how it all turned out and how happy everyone was. We actually become friends with the brides and grooms we deal with as we speak to them on a weekly basis. We recently provided tipis to a couple who got married in East Lothiam, on a cliff overlooking the sea which was an incredible location and really humbled us.
We feel extremely lucky to do what we do and it’s the small things like lighting a camp fire and sleeping under the stars during a big tipi build that make it a spectacular experience. Naturally working with Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright on their Big Day was a wonderful opportunity and they loved our tipis, but all of our other brides this year have been equally as lovely.

“Absolutely amazing thanks. We had a fabulous time and were blown away by the tipis. Thanks for sorting and all of your onsite team that put them up. I had so many compliments about how amazing the tipis were. Which obviously was all your doing. They fitted the venue really well.” James Meyrick – Big Chief Groom, May 2015
How do you know if a tipi is right for your wedding?
Organising an outdoor party isn’t for the faint hearted and isn’t for someone wanting a ‘square wedding’. If you want originality, a space to blow your guests away and a night you’ll never forget, then a tipi is definitely something you should consider. Whether you want a summer or winter wedding, we have a range of weather-proofing Accessories to ensure you are happy throughout your wedding, regardless of the British weather! Either way, our team will be with you every step of the way, so rest assured, you’ll be in the hands of the Big Chief!
Every year we hold two Big Chief Open Weekends, with our Autumn one taking place at Holford Hall in Knutsford (Cheshire) on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October – so we’d really recommend you coming down, having a chat with our team and taking a look at our tipis and our favourite outdoor event suppliers to see how fantastic they are. You can register for tickets here and you can read more information about our Open Day here.
What’s your best piece of advice for couples who’re planning their wedding?
Enjoy it! Try to keep as organised as possible and tick something off your list every week but above all have fun – this is one of those times in your life when it’s all about you, so make the most of it!
Finally, what’s your life quote/motto?
Big Chief’s moto is to ‘Turn dreams into memories’ as we like to take an idea and make it into a reality you (or your guests) will never forget. Personally my life quote is ‘perseverance pays off’ and I feel it works for every aspect of my life, at work and at home too.
I don’t know about you, but we’re totally besotted/enamoured/borderline obsessed (just being honest here!) with their tipis, to find out more and getting chatting to them, hit up our directory now!
Have yourselves a rad Thursday – the weekend is on the horizon, friends!
Peace + Love
