As soon as you walk into Frou Frou Bridal Boutique in Tunbridge Wells you realise that this is no ordinary wedding dress shop! In fact, you walk in and breathe a sigh of relief as there are no bloused up shop assistants, no cream carpets, no overwhelming dress rail and certainly no stiff upper lip!
Instead you walk into a modern, spacious and arty boutique that is full of quirky and inspirational decor, an eclectic and modest collection of alternative wedding dresses and some seriously stunning vintage accessories. Add to that the owners, Helena and Nicole, and you have the perfect mix of a young, fresh and modern take on the traditional bridal boutique – our kind of bridal boutique.
On Friday 21st of October 2011, Helena and Nicole were so excited to open the doors of their very first Bridal Boutique. Their aim was to bring a little bit of London to Tunbridge Wells, steering well away from the usual bridal fluffiness and offering a more relaxed environment for the bride to be. Finding the ‘one’ dress can be a daunting task and possibly the biggest decision a bride has to make, so for Helena & Nicole it was important to make sure Frou Frou was comfortable but still captured that ‘special occasion’ feeling of luxe.
Their ethos is to offer an experience brides will always remember – A Bridal Boutique with a very vintage/eclectic twist and we must say, the ladies have succeeded!
We loved the relaxed atmosphere of Frou Frou and how the girls background in fashion and graphic design had influenced the interior and whole style of the boutique. It made the shop and the service they’re offering feel much more personal and genuine compared to the more traditional bridal boutiques we have visited in the past.
All the finishing touches reflected the eclectic twist of their ethos, like the inspiration mood board illustrated in the picture below that changes every week, or the colourful moose head that casually had a vintage lace garter hanging from it’s antlers!
We could have quite easily spent the whole afternoon drinking organic tea from their vintage crockery, browsing through their stunning dresses (and they are stunning!) or trying on all the vintage accessories which the ladies source themselves. In fact, I loved the feel to the shop so much that I have booked an appointment to try on some dresses for my wedding!
Frou Frou stock some beautiful dresses that are perfect for a festival bride. Alternative in style, you can choose from MATTHEW WILLIAMSON / STEWART PARVIN / DAVID FIELDEN /LYN ASHWORTH / SARAH SEVEN (who I love – one of her dresses with the sweetheart neck line is featured in the last image below)/ IVY & ASTER and coming soon BELLE & BUNTY (who we will be featuring on festival brides next week.)
They also stock a small collection of VINTAGE GOWNS along with exquisite accessories including veils, jewellery, shoes and lingerie.
The girls at Frou Frou invite you to bring your family and friends and enjoy a glass of champagne or a pot of delicious tea and cake.
So if you are looking for a Bridal Boutique that offers the ultimate in dress-up and a personal, fun and relaxed experience then book yourself an appointment with Helena and Nicole. I might even see you there!
