Well hoo-blinking-rah – there’s a Bank Holiday on the horizon! Hope you’ve got fabulous plans for the weekend. Whatever you’re up to, I’ve got the perfect thing to get you in the mood for an escape right here. Alexander House in Scotland is one of our favourite venues (you’ll find them in our festival wedding directory) and they LOVE weddings as much as we do. So, let’s head north of the border and find out more about the amazing options available at Alexander House…
Tell us a little about about Alexander House…
Alexander House is nestled high in the Perthshire Hills, with breathtaking views in every direction – a new country house that sits in keeping with its rugged yet beautiful surroundings.
We’re just a stone’s throw from the world famous Gleneagles and the bustling and vibrant town of Auchterarder.
Weddings at Alexander House are always romantic. But they’re also fun. We offer relaxed weddings at Alexander House from 21 in the main house, up to 120 people in a yurt or tipi in the grounds with optional glamping.
We love every type of wedding from intimate or festival themed, to much more lavish affairs!
We know that you also offer Yurt Weddings. What makes festival weddings at Alexander House so special?
The location and grounds really are key. The views are stunning and every day brings a different yet beautiful view. The perfect backdrop for a rustic festival wedding.
What options are available for couples when it comes to food and drink?
We work with some excellent caterers and private chefs and any manner of theme or menu choice can be provided. Couples can take their pick of our trusted suppliers or bring their own favoured one.
We’ve heard LOTS about your ensuite yurt! Can you tell us more because this sounds perfect for a wedding night?
In fact we have two!
Tucked away in a cosy sheltered corner, with stunning views our two permanent Yurts have comfy king size beds with luxury crisp linens, marshmallow duvets and pillows. Each has a cute stove top wood burner and its own private en suite 12ft yurt bathroom with a roll top bath.
Both yurts are ensuite and have a luxurious wood-fired hot tub on the deck perfect for some relaxation after your amazing wedding day here at Alexander House , with a bottle of fizz of course!
Where do you take your inspiration from for your designs?
Internally in the main house, inspiration has quite simply come from everywhere. “Everything in the house was donated, reclaimed, or are our cherished bits and pieces. It’s incredibly eclectic. The pool room came from a friend’s house in Wales. They were downsizing so we had to pick that up from Wales. I’m not joking when I say that everything has come from all over the country.” Jo Lewis owner of Alexander House.
The yurts are cosy yet luxurious, decked out with all mod cons (even a heated towel rail!) and rustic touches like antique furniture and rugs alongside fur throws.
We’re guessing that Alexander House is a real ‘destination’. Do you host wedding weekends for couples looking for a longer celebration?
All our weekend weddings are for two night stays which is great when you are gathering friends and family from far and wide. Make a real celebration and a special stay at a glorious venue for your guests.
If you had to choose just five things that make Alexander House so special, what would they be?
The Housekeeping Team – Fiona & Jimmy.
The location feels so private and intimate yet it is close to everything you or your guests might want.
The wood fired hot tubs are a real hit with our guests!
The little luxuries and touches that make your stay special.
What do couples need to think about if they’re planning a wedding in Scotland?
If you want a yurt or tipi – better to go for the warmer and less windy months here at Alexander House! We wouldn’t want it being blown away!!
What’s your best piece of advice for brides who’re trying to choose their wedding venue?
Choose a venue that fits with the style of wedding you want – rustic to luxurious or a mix of the two. Not every wedding venue will work for your vision of your big day. Choose carefully and with your heart! Have the wedding day you and the one you love truly want, not one that tries to please everyone else!
Finally, what’s your life motto at Alexander House?
A wedding is a fabulous party, not a performance, so if at the end of the day you are married to the one you love, then everything went perfectly!
Yay! Thanks to the team at Alexander House for that – I want to head to the hills right now! If you’d like to find out more about Alexander House, visit their website or take a look at their listing in our festival wedding directory.
