So you have found your perfect venue, a stunning green field site where you can put your stamp on your special day. You want to leave the venue in its original glorified state for others to enjoy, yes? Well why not lend Mother Nature a helping hand in ensuring your event is as environmentally friendly as possible, as to not damage the striking surroundings you and your partner fell in love with.
Today we have put together some great ideas on how to make your wedding more environmentally friendly and in some cases, as a result, save money!
Use natural resources. Rustic wood styling creates an ‘earthy’ ambiance. Whether it is used as a sign to point guests in the right direction or bark to create the elegant tea light holders pictured above. We would always suggest a bonfire to keep warm at night! Be artistic with wood…
Feed the birds
Confetti can be a real misery to clear following the ceremony, so why not opt for a more sustainable option that won’t spoil the beautiful surroundings. Throwing bird seeds onto the newlyweds rather than paper confetti is not only biodegradable and kind on the environment, but welcomes birds back to their habitat following the ceremony.
All those bottles of wine shared with your girlfriends to ease the wedding pressure – KEEP THEM! Banish the extravagant centre pieces for something a little more subtle that is guaranteed to get numerous compliments. Recycle and reuse your used glass bottles adding eco picked flowers to add colour to your setting.
Ditch the gas-guzzling chauffer driven car and instead let your new husband steer you away on a tandem. There is something enticing about a bride and groom riding away on a tandem bike. Your journey will be especially fun if your site is off the beaten track.
Why not opt for organic food at your event which is produced using environmentally friendly farming methods. Organic Buffet is a Berkshire based catering company which offers fresh, locally sourced produce for your event. Offering a range of high quality foods, including scrummy canapés (including peppered chicken skewers with tomato chilli jam – WOW!), hog roasts, cold meats and salads. They are also renowned for their scrumptious deserts including Eton Mess and Chocolate Roulade! Their mouth-watering menus start from £22 per head.
We love mason jars! They are quirky, versatile and won’t break the bank. Choose a colour to suit your styling and customise with guests names to create a keep sake wedding favor. Guests can use their jars at your evening ceremony – requesting refills from the bar when required. This minimises waste at your event and reuses already existing glass.
Potted plants are the perfect wedding favor for your guests. Not only can you incorporate them into the decoration of your ceremony by having them on display for guests to take home at the end of the night, but there is also scope to make them very personal. By getting creative and using fabric, ribbons and tags to decorate your pots – the customization of these gorgeous little favors is endless. You will be doing your bit for Mother Nature by encouraging guests to nourish their plants as your love blossoms.
The wedding planner
Last but not least ensure that your wedding planner has the same vision as you and your partner. La Vie Est Unvoyage – which translates to ‘Life is a Journey’ is a consultancy organisation passionate about eco-friendly weddings and helping you to ‘go green’. A planner who understands the setting you’re trying to create can introduce new ideas on how to become more sustainable.
