Those of you beautiful faces looking back at me (I see you through the screen, heyyy!) who are new around here might be yet to meet the amazing wood-fired pizzas of Born & Raised, but let me tell you, once you’ve met them, you won’t forget them! 

We featured these guys on the blog a couple of years ago now (lawdy, where is time going?!) and that’s when we first fell in love with their incredible grub and, well, nothing’s changed, my friends!

If you like pizza as much as we like pizza, (and that’s a tough call, believe me) you’re gonna fall head over heels for these guys.

We’re gonna put you in the very safe, albeit a little floury, hands of head chef, Tom Dewey, to tell you a little bit more about their delicious food and super rad Defender-come-mobile-oven!

Tell us a little about yourself…

I trained as a chef and most recently worked under Gary Rhodes at Rhodes 24 before falling in love with wood-fired pizzas and starting up Born & Raised. Combining all that I had learnt, with classic Italian pizza dough.

Born & Raised is a unique mobile wood fired pizzeria, we create artisan British inspired pizzas in our converted Land Rover Defender. Our set up creates a great focal point for your guests and is centred around our Land Rover’s custom built wood burning oven, which we fire up to 500c to cook pizzas in just 90 seconds!

If you had a chance to go to any music festival, which one would it be?

Hmm – it would probably be Glastonbury – just for the atmosphere!

What made you decide to start Born & Raised?

I had always wanted to start my own company and it was always going to be with food.

I love the variety and challenge of catering at different events and occasions – new people trying my food and a constantly changing setting, where you get to meet so many great people on the way – the amount of pizza chats I have had at wedding events!

Tell us a little bit more about your pizzas…

We take a classic Italian pizza and give it a British twist…

We create different flavour combinations:

Beef with horseradish and watercress

Goats cheese with caramelised onions and beetroot sourdough

…And add great British produce:

Cobble Lane cured meats (Islington, London)

Rosary goats cheese (Wiltdshire)

Brue Valley Mozzarella

Twineham Grange cheese.

Then there’s our wood fired Land Rover, which is very unique. It’s always a great focal point and conversation topic at weddings and events

We offer both a full sit down meal service as well as an evening service where guests can place an order and watch their pizzas being hand stretched and cooked in front of their eyes.

Our pizzas can also be accompanied by a selection of freshly made salads and sides. All guests can be catered for with gluten and dairy free options available when booked in advance. Our prices start from just £9 per person.

5 copyOur dough is all handmade and we take pride in sourcing the very best locally produced British ingredients. We can provide a customised menu for your event from either our own topping combinations or some new creations that reflect the best of your areas local offerings.

What are some of your favourite memories + experiences from previous weddings you’ve worked with?

I’ve only ever had good experiences. There have been some amazing settings; the Cotswolds and New Forest were particularly stunning! And there’s been some really fantastic evening entertainment, with bands, musicians, comics and karaoke!

The best feeling is when a bride and groom personally thank you for coming and tell you how they really enjoyed the food,  oh except one… When they turned up at 11pm and we had run out!

If our readers were to have you cater their wedding, what can they expect?

They can expect clear and prompt communication. We’ll explain exactly what we do and what we can offer for their particular wedding.

A very professional and on time service.

Consistent quality, from the first to the last pizza – we wont start service until our oven hits 500 c!

What’s your best piece of advice for couples who’re trying to choose their caterer?

Always test products/services beforehand, if you can – or choose based on a recommendation from someone who has used a product or service before.

It’s a special day – just enjoy it!

We’re hearts for eyes all round here at FBrides HQ, and I gotta tell you, the moment my beau and I start planning a vow-renewal party (Oh yes, it’s happening… Is 3 years too soon?!) I WILL be calling these guys!
