Ok so I got a rare few hours to catch up with some newspaper reading at the weekend!! Well I was having a sort out of my piles but this article totally amused me!! I just had to tell you all about it…

Champingmain

So sleeping in churches.. What do you think!! Enlightening or just a little scary?? There are more than 345 redundant churches so why not make use of them in the local community… I’m not religious but I am a fan of how beautiful and calm these places are. It is a shame that these spaces are going to waste and becoming derelict. It has always been a dream of mine to buy a run down chapel and turn it into an awesome venue!!

Champers are welcome to enjoy the magnificent grade I listed medieval interior of All Saints Church in the picturesque village of Aldwincle in Northamptonshire.

And how about adding an activity into your champing trip!! Canoe2 has teamed up with The Churches Conservation Trust, creating an absolutely unique new experience. Read all about the trips that can be booked with Canoe2 here

Option One – One day paddling your canoe, one night champing, with fully planned evening

  • One day paddling Thrapston to King’s Head Pub Wadenhoe, to Aldwincle
  • Overnight accommodation in All Saints Church, Aldwincle
  • 3 course meal at Pear Tree Farm, Aldwincle
  • Storyteller at the church, after dinner
  • Breakfast baps and hot drinks delivered to church in the morning

Option Two – as option one above, but no canoeing, just come straight to the church for your one-night champing stay, with fully planned evening

Option Three – Two days paddling your canoe, one night champing, with evening open for your own plans

  • Two days paddling from Blackthorne Lake Marina to Oundle
  • Overnight accommodation in All Saints Church, Aldwincle
  • Breakfast baps and hot drinks delivered to church in the morning

Option Four – as option three above, but no canoeing, just come straight to the church for your one-night champing stay, and make your own plans

The campsite sleeps up to 16…. so get your mates together and book this truly unique experience. They have dates in August and September but due to the unique nature of this offering they could be filling up fast. Lets hope this phenomenon continues at other churches around the UK…

Happy champing!! xx
