Planning a Hen Do, Honeymoon or Wedding? How about a spot of Glamping! Part 1

I am a huge fan of camping, in fact I’m a bit weird in that the more ‘wild’ the camping is the more I seem to enjoy it! If you have ever laid in a swag in the middle of the Western Australian outback staring into trillions of stars then you’ll know what I mean. Even camping in Wales right on black rocks beach back in August I loved and it rained more or less everyday! I just think it adds to the experience but I am aware that not everyone has this attitude and camping is usually associated with a bad nights sleep, smelly sleeping bags, having to go to the loo in the middle of the night in the pitch black when it’s raining and leaking tents! Well never fear because Glamping is here!!!

“Glamping” shorthand for glamorous camping is exactly what it says on the tin. It’s perfect for anybody who loves the idea of camping and the big outdoors without having to deal with the unpleasantries! We’re talking your own tipi, yurt, gyspy caravan or bell tent decked out with luxury linens, quirky interior and a ready made bed all set up so all you need to do is pack your wellies and overnight bag and get ready to chill in style under the stars!

How cool would it be to have your hen do, wedding or honeymoon at one of the awesome glamping sites throughout the UK and worldwide!? All you have to do is find one that suits you…………………well my lovelies that’s where Festival Brides come in! We’ve put on our research hats and found the best glamp sites and directories available on the big wide world web!

Go Glamping

Go Glamping is the leading luxury camping directory where you will find yurts, tipis, safari tents, airstream caravans and much much more from across the globe………..I love it!

I was super excited when I first stumbled across this site and have been hooked ever since!

You can search by location, type of accommodation or from the editors picks – they will even point you in the right direction of where to buy your own awesome ‘glamping’ tent/tipi/caravan.

Here’s some of my favourites from the site:

Mini-Moon

Wriggles Brook Gypsy B&B - in Herefordshire (perfect for a romantic break away from all the wedding planning!)

“Renowned for fabulous food and quirky accommodation in romantic gypsy caravans, Wriggles Brook Gypsy B&B is nestled down a single track lane in the heart of the Wye Valley, an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Herefordshire.

The gypsy caravans are situated in an acre of organic garden which produces many of the vegetables that appear on your breakfast and dinner plates. Breakfast is brought to your caravan any time between dawn and 11.00am with meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans all catered for.

Each caravan has an outside camp-fire and an inside working antique ‘Queenie Stove’, plus an oil-filled electric radiator for more instant heat.

Outside there is a hammock and a swing for each caravan, and guests share a centrally heated luxury cabin with a lovely hot shower, eco-friendly loo, a fridge and kitchen sink.

I want to go there now!!!

Glamping Holiday, Surrey

“Situated on the Surrey and Sussex border, Glamping Holiday offers a complete holiday package with bell tents set up for your arrival.

Our two bell tents are set on a one acre exclusive site with beautiful views, seclusion and a taste of the countryside.

Each bell tent contains airbeds, bedding, towels, chairs, a fire pit, food preparation, cooking and dining equipment, lanterns and chandelier. There is a plentiful supply of logs on site, hot showers, flushing toilets and an outdoor washing up area.

You will receive a welcome breakfast pack on your arrival containing eggs, bacon, bread, butter, jam, milk and of course some marshmallows for toasting on the fire pit.

Honeymoon

Palmar Tent Lodge – Panama

Palmar Tent Lodge is located on the Caribbean side of Panama directly on the world famous Red Frog Beach on Isla Bastimentos in the Bocas del Toro Province.”

The property is perfectly positioned between the rainforest and the sparkling waters of the Caribbean – wow weeee!

The location offers incredible views of the primitive coastline and nearby islands and due to the northward view, both sunrises and sunsets from the property are incredible. Accommodation options range from comfortable private safari-style tents to shared dorm safari tents or for those who want an authentic camping experience, we have campsites where you can pitch your own tent or rent one from our supply (Bob I hope you’re reading this!!)

All of our canvas safari tents are elevated on wooden platforms and are cheerfully decorated featuring semi-orthopedic mattresses, a large, lockable trunk for securing personal items and a small table with floor pillows. All furniture is custom made using local materials.

Each tent comes with a 12 volt fan and lamp that are hooked up to a solar powered battery.

To take advantage of our incredible jungle setting every private tent has its own small, private patio area with comfortable chairs and colorful solar powered lanterns. Private tents also come with a private outdoor shower area with a 5 gallon outdoor solar shower for rinsing off after a day at the beach.” – AMAZING!!!!

Cabanes als Arbres, Girona

A unique collection of beautiful tree houses in a natural forest setting near Girona, in the north of Catalonia, Spain.

Cabanes als Arbes, or Huts in the Trees, offers lovers of nature the unique pleasure of a stay in direct touch with the tree and its ecosystem, in this collection of beautiful tree houses in a forest setting near GironaCatalonia.

The tree huts are adapted to the nature of the tree that supports them. Of a rounded shape, and 30 m2 in size, each hut includes the trunk in the middle.

To preserve the environment to the utmost, the huts don’t have electricity nor running water. Therefore, each hut is equipped with hand and head torches and candles, as well as a jug with water and a basin.

The WC is biodegradable and is recycled in the form of composting. In order to enjoy the calmness of the morning and the privileged situation of the huts, continental breakfast is served in the huts via a basket. The terrace of 10 m2 is a fantastic space to rest and relax, with delightful views of the Montseny, or to the Pyrenees. Guests are able to access the hut through a suspended bridge and a wooden ladder.I love the sound of this place – eco frienly and living amongst the trees with amazing views – the perfect get-a-away for your honeymoon.

Now Lets Talk Weddings!

Glamping sites would make the PERFECT venue for a festival wedding (or any wedding for that matter) providing they have enough space for all your guests, room for a marquee and don’t mind you having your wedding there!

When Bob and I first got engaged and stuggled to find a venue in Kent, we turned our attention to Glamp sites and Campsites across the UK and below are a few of the most awesome sites we found!!!

Lovelane Caravans, Cornwall - Oh how I love this venue and how cool is their illustration below!?

Illustration via LoveLane Caravans

Lovelane Caravans offers classic caravans and 70′s Showman Wagons, that have been all lovingly restored, as well as normal camping so you can pitch up and enjoy everything the site offers. Located on the Lizard peninsular, the very last bit of undiscovered Cornwall, the site is more or less surrounded by water and countryside! It sounds idyllic!

They have oogles of space for a marquee so your own ‘wedding festival’ is possible at Love Lane Camp! You and your guests can be accommodated in style and choose between the caravans or your own tent!

Cornish Tipi Weddings – Eco Friendly Wedding Venue

Imagine your own Tipi village for your wedding accommodation, with each Tipi having it’s own private camp fire all located around a beautiful lake where you can take boat trips and go fishing for fresh water trout?

Imagine walking through whimsical woodland on route to the gazebo where you can hold your ‘legal’ civil ceremony!?

All of this and more is possible at the beautiful Cornish Tipi Weddings/holidays

“If you’re dreaming of a woodland wedding, green wedding, wedding by water or perhaps a camping wedding then you’ve come to the right place. Our wood, willow and canvas Pavilion isn’t on a manicured lawn but really outdoors; by a clear brook & under a canopy of oak and ash.”

Just lovely!

Billy Can Camping - an awesome campsite in Sussex that officially do weddings!

Image via Billycan Camping

“Billycan Camping is a campsite with a difference: Situated in 650 acres of farmland, BCC provides an opportunity to sleep in one of their fully-fitted canvas bell tents, dine under the night sky, toast marshmallows on the communal camp fire, wake up to stunning views and have a break from the routine of every-day life.” – Sounds good to me!

A festival style wedding at this awesome venue has already been featured on Rock ‘n’ Roll Bride – click here to see more!

There are so many glampsites accross the UK that would make fantastic wedding venues especially if you want your very own wedstock!

Search through the directories featured in this post or alternatively contact us and we will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.

Make sure you check out the blog tomorrow for Part 2 – Glamping sites for Hen Weekends!

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Big Love

The perfect honeymoon getaway in the Shropshire Hills

1 Sep

So I’ve just got back after 10 days camping in the beautiful Snowdonia National Park and Nolton Haven in Wales (blog on its way!), and after a week of thinking about what my first post on Festival Brides will be, I’ve decided to share with you a place that is very special to me. In fact, it’s in this quirky hidden gem where Festival Brides really first started although I hadn’t realised it yet! This is where Bob proposed and it couldn’t have been more perfect. If like me your idea of the perfect honeymoon is donning a pair of walking boots and exploring the big outdoors or relaxing with a glass of wine looking out at a stunning view then you will love this place rain or shine – trust me!

“From the moment you arrive you’ll sink into the place, drink in the details with a glass of red wine, shut the curtains and curl up together in a unique, moorishly loved space just for two.” Tripadvisor.com

The Bothy, owned by the lovely Tim Dicker and Mary Wraith, is a gorgeous stone built single story barn perched on a hillside overlooking the rolling hills of the South Shropshire countryside. Completely secluded in the most romantic setting, you can’t help but be drawn towards the quirky yet relaxed atmosphere the barn creates.

The interior, all decorated by Tim and Mary, is full of character with sculptures and original artwork by Tim and his family; a dangling trapeze artist with a glass of champagne toasting you as you walk through the door; walk in shower and an amazing queen sized bed!! Your locally sourced breakfast can either be delivered to your door or served in Tim & Mary’s equally quirky home! They’ve even provided a selection of CD’s, DVD’s and books to satisfy all tastes. Every detail is taken care of but not over done at all and that’s why I loved it so much. It was special yet felt like home.

Game of cards, bottle of red wine and an amazing view – just lovely!

There’s loads to do in the area and Tim and Mary will point you in the right direction depending on what you want to do. For Bob and I it was a long walk along Offa’s Dyke, and then lots of bottles of wine and champagne!!

Our stay there couldn’t have been more perfect. Tim and Mary were the perfect hosts – attentive when needed and equally discrete. Thank you both for making us feel so welcome.
