Alternative Catering Ideas: Wedding Picnic

27 Feb

I know of sooo many brides who would love to invite more friends and family to their wedding, however are being put under financial constraints due to how much it costs to cater for everybody. A swanky four course sit down meal will cost you anywhere between £30-£60 per head, depending on which delicacies you and your fiance choose..well it doesn’t have to be that way! A picnic would make the perfect alternative catering for your wedding day. Having been born and brought up in Wales..I absolutely adore the fresh air & would choose a picnic over Gordon Ramsays’ any day!

What makes the perfect picnic? Family and friends. Why not ask everyone to get involved and pick a different dish to contribute to your picnic. You could send out a little reminder a week before the wedding as to what each guest is expected to bring to the table.

Make the cooking fun..and competitive! It could be an idea to keep the chef’s anonymous and get the guests to vote for their favorite dish! At the end of the picnic the master chef will be revealed… I love games! This is also a good way to encourage your guests to make an effort and not just throw a few Iceland sausage rolls in the oven..

If you feel that this is all too much effort and would cause you even more stress leading up to the day – there are a number of caterer’s who will put the picnic hampers together for you! Cucina Catering based in London, provide perfect hampers for al fresco dining! Also.. the hampers are yours to keep!! What a lovely memorabilia for your guests!

Each guest receives their own hamper with packages starting from £21. You can expect Cucina Catering to provide wonderful delights ranging from Honey and Balsamic Cocktail Sausages with a Honey Mustard Dip, Olives, Lemon and Chilli Chicken and Spicy Coconut Noodles…. sounds like a very snazzy picnic to me! Yum!

No picnic would be complete without homemade lemonade!

My Baking Addiction provides an easy step-by-step guide on how to make Homemade Strawberry Lemonade for your guests. You can choose to have your very own Lemonade Stand (perfect to keep the kids entertained) or fill up some mason jars and pass them around.

A picnic is not only for  the countryside – look how beautiful you can create the same look on the beach. So if your planning on getting married abroad, or even on the South Coast, a picnic on the beach can create an amazing cosy and romantic scene. Just watch out for the seagulls!

I was lucky enough to receive an amazing vintage picnic hamper off Ben for Christmas.. and it’s still beneath the bed waiting for the sun!

Bring on the summer!!

Loving this post and the new look to the blog! We’re having a picnic at our wedding in July. We’ve made massive picnic tables to seat everyone, I’m in the process of sewing 80 cushions and we’re serving our picnic food on the tables for everyone to dig into. As everything will be cold, we’ve really cut down on costs, I think it’s coming at in around £13 a head. We’re having a wood oven pizza truck later on in the evening. Hopefully everyone will be well fed and happy!!

wedding picnic sounds really good. I think this idea might be fantastic during hot summer on countrysides and seaside. I think it could be also really nice to prepare big BBQ with different types of meat and vegetables on it. DO you agree?
