Alternative Buttonhole Ideas for the Groom and Groomsmen

23 Oct

It’s no secret that most of the content provided on UK wedding blogs and magazines are designed with the Bride in mind and the men in our lives get slightly neglected. Now, for the majority of cases this is because the bride is usually the one who does most of the planning so it makes sense for us to base most of our inspiration around wedding elements the bride will love. But over the last few months we’ve started to receive more and more emails from grooms mainly looking for bands, bar companies, festival venues and most recently bespoke tailored suit companies – it seems you style savvy grooms are getting a bit bored with Moss Bros and are looking for something a little bit different.

So we thought it was about time we started doing a few posts that are all about the boys and the boys only!

First up it’s alternative ideas for your button holes!

Tradition dictates that the groom should wear a flower corsage or button hole with their suit which is all very nice but do you guys really like wearing a nice wilted rose on your chest? They can look pretty, granted and the smell can be sweet too – but that’s the thing right – do you really care about looking pretty and smelling sweet!?

How about creating a buttonhole that is completely bespoke and says a little something about you and your mates personalities. Maybe you’re a comic fan and would quite happily have the watchman badge as your button hole or you have a nickname that you wouldn’t mind proudly representing on your wedding day!

If you like the idea of a flower then why not make it out of some sheet music from your favourite band or get crafty and make a flower like the first image above. If real flowers float your boat then go down the more rustic natural route and create a buttonhole with some foliage mixed with a single wild flower.

There are lots of companies out there that provide quirky and unique button holes. Etsy is a good place to start (this Yoda one rocks!) and there is also an awesome company in the US called Fritts Rosenow who supply to the UK (their button holes are featured in the last image below).

In the meantime, check out the images below for more ideas……………

Grooms should definitely see their buttonhole as a way of injecting some of their personality into their special day. There are some great ideas in here – the little superheroes are really fun, if a little more daring! Thanks for sharing
