Morning morning, hons! And a VERY happy (albeit not as sunny as I’d like it!) Friday to you! A little delayed, but we’re back with another 10 Ways to Make Your (already lovely) Life even Lovelier! And have we got some absolute blinders for you this morning.
We’re sharing a the latest way to get your essential oils fix, a non-toxic deodorant that keeps you clean (in every way!), we’re also chatting #zerowaste, how to create your personal meditation space, and if you scroll right to the end there’s the CUTEST little download from the House that Lars Built that’d make such a cute little weekend project!
So without further adieu, (because I’m WAY to excited about this first one!) let’s get into it…
One: Essentials On-the-Go
Now, aromatherapy isn’t a new concept, obvs! In fact for thousands of years humans have been turning to these precious oils to aid them in life, but that’s not to say that oils are keeping up with the times! Hell no!
Said exactly as you’d anticipate, ‘monk’, is the latest in portable aromatherapy diffusers. Offering an uniquely intimate experience, you simply place the MONQ to your lips, inhale into your mouth and exhale through your nose, getting the vapour as close to your olfactory nerve endings as possible! Read more about the science of it here.
Now I know what you’re thinking: ummm Clare, recommending a vape/e-cigarette? Out of character much?!
But guys, this is no vape or e-cigarette! Theres is nothing harmful in a MONQ, it only contains organic, naturally extracted essential oils and a vegetable glycerin base, (making them free of nicotine, tobacco, or artificial chemicals), plus you only inhale into your mouth, not down into the lungs. Still not so sure? Have a read about vegetable glycerin safety here.
And with 10 gorgeous (GORGEOUS) blends you can literally choose how you want to feel (click the names to shop!):
Zen orange • frankincense • ylang-ylang
Happy fennel • thyme • vanilla
Active black pepper • orange • sage
Sexy jasmine • lime • patchouli
Sleepy lavender • chamomile • kava
Vibrant ginger • lemon • spearmint
Healthy cinnamon • marjoram • turmeric
Aaand there’s me, just LOVING (I mean, could I look anymore overexcited?!) my favourite Monq: the Happy blend, so yum!
Two: Hippy Pits
Guys! I’m hitting you with all the product recommendations first this morning (mainly because I am just WAY too psyched about both of them), and this one’s a goodie!
So y’all know I’m really into cleaning up my act, and I know it’s quickly becoming a huge trend in the UK now, and one of the biggest (and yet worthwhile) struggles for many is finding a natural deodorant with super clean ingredients that actually works.
That’s where Hippy Pits came waltzing into my life and changed the game!
Made with a Shea butter base, you can actually read and understand the ingredients list on this deodorant! Ha! No, for real though:
Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Arrowroot Powder, Tapioca Starch, Diatomaceous Earth, Baking Soda,Canadian Glacial Clay, Rose Clay & White Kaolin Clay,Grapefruit Seed Extract, Essential Oils,Vitamin E – Soy derived
…And that’s it! Use your nail, or a little to scrape a little amount into your hand and simply rub into your pits! It won’t dry your skin out (in fact it seems to actively moisturise it!), it won’t leave white marks on your clothes, you don’t have to wait for it to dry and it’s clean as Monica Geller’s apartment. BOOM.
Live like a hippy, don’t smell like one!
Three: Plastic Free Faves
And because there are a million ways to ‘clean up your act’ and up your consciousness, surfing the #zerowaste movement is definitely another way to make life (and the Earth) a whole lot more lovely!
A YouTuber I religiously follow created #theplastictallychallenge at the start of this week. You can watch the video here, but essentially she challenges her viewers to simply tally up how much plastic they use and dispose of during the course of a week… Not hard, but my gosh has it been an eye opener! I’d consider myself relatively aware of packaging, but I’ve literally struggled to keep up with the volume of plastic I’ve been throwing away this week. All of which has an undetermined degrading lifespan… Scary stuff for our planet!
SO! Here are some of the trending (and also my fave!) zero waste alternatives I’m into and would recommend right now!
Muslin bags – I ordered these and they’ve been an amazing alternative to all those plastic bags you get in the veg section at the supermarket, they keep the veg/fruit so well aerated too!
Net shopping bags – great for buying (and storing!) fruit, and they’re just super on trend to be honest!
The Keep Cup – we all know we should be taking our own cup to the coffee shop, but what about those of us that have shorter coffees (even a double espresso) and don’t wanna carry round a huge flask all-day-err-day?! Keep Cup have you covered.
Four: ‘Bucha Babes
Kombucha. The trendiest drink around right now, it’s been huge in Australia and the US for a while now, but it is finally hitting our UK shores, and I, for one, could not be more excited!
What is Kombucha?
Kombucha is a living health drink made by fermenting tea and sugar with the kombucha culture (a ‘scoby’). It can taste like something between sparkling apple cider and champagne, depending on what kind of tea you use! ‘Fermented tea’ doesn’t exactly make you go ‘yummm’, but trust me it’s really addictive! The origins of Kombucha have become lost in the mists of time. It’s thought to have originated in the Far East, most likely China, and has been consumed there for at least two thousand years.
Why drink it?
Known as the ‘Immortal Health Elixir’, after being fermented, Kombucha becomes carbonated and contains vinegar, b-vitamins, enzymes, probiotics and a high concentration of acid (acetic, gluconic and lactic), which are associated with the following benefits:
- Improved Digestion
- Weight Loss
- Increased Energy
- Cleansing and Detoxification
- Immune Support
- Reduced Joint Pain
- Cancer Prevention
Where can I get it?
Check out your local health food store, that’d definitely be my first port of call, as it’s great to support smaller independent business’ like that! However, if you’re really struggling for a local supplier, you can hit up Amazon, or Holland + Barrett have just started stocking my favourite Portuguese brand, Captain Kombucha (the raspberry flavour is INSANE!). Or, if you’re feeling really brave, you could try making your own…!
Five: 4 Life Keys
I guess I should’ve coined this a ‘Now Reading’ although, it’s actually more of a ‘I will be reading’ as this book is next on my list! I’ve mentioned ‘The Four Agreements’ in passing to you guys before, but I hear so much good stuff about this book that (even though I’m yet to read it!) I thought it deserved its own space in this post!
A New York Times bestseller for over 10 years, Miguel Ruiz’s book ‘reveals the source of self-limiting beliefs that rob us of joy and create needless suffering. Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, The Four Agreements offer a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love’…
Now I don’t know about you, but in our current world state of affairs, I feel like we be needing a LOT more of this!
So I’d encourage you to make this your summer study, and take some time to look inwards and raise your consciousness, so together we can work to make life lovelier!
Six: Personal Space
Nope, I’m not talking about how close that lady stood behind you in the queue for the checkouts (but dang, lady, back up!), I’m talking about creating a space for meditation; your personal space.
I’ve found this to be really important in helping be to solidify meditation as a daily habit, and to get the most out of the time I set aside to meditate. I mean, did you know there’s something of a recipe to creating an ideal setting to meditate?! Here it is:
First find a space that you feel good in. Consider lighting, noise levels and privacy.
Second as much as possible, declutter and clear that space. Be selective with what you let into the space: a few items that find bring you peace, maybe a meditation or floor cushion, a small table, a mat or a nice throw rug.
Third add a touch of nature. This helps us connect to the Earth and ground ourselves, evoking a sense of balance. This could be a flower from your garden, a house plant, a stone or even a water feature.
Then add a scent. Whether its essential oils, or an incense stick, a beautiful aroma helps to soothe the mind. You could even use a scented candle, and watch the flame flicker to help steady and centre your focus
Finally, inspire yourself. Whether that’s with a set of meditation cards or a music, this can help to focus the mind.
And remember! This doesn’t have to be a set space, you could keep all these goodies in a little purse in your bag so your space is portable, and it also doesn’t have to be an entire room, it could just be a corner, but there is something very calming + helpful about the ritual of setting up/settling into your space.
Seven: Flashback Fiction
…And I use the word ‘flashback’ in the nicest of ways! I owe this one to my beau, as he’s totally inspired me in this! So alongside reading something that challenges my thought processes, I’ve been delving into some of my teenage favourites *cough Judy Blume cough* and it’s been SO nostalgic!
Not only are these reads super easy going fiction, but they also take me back to being about 14 (oh those were the days!) making them almost comforting! It’s been the perfect way to unwind this summer!
What did you babes read as teenagers?! I’m so intrigued to hear?!
Eight: Now Watching
You better believe we’ve been all over Poldark season 3.
Because, well, AIDEN TUNER…
And because the storyline is just as fabulous as ever, AND because they’ve thrown in a new batch of gorgeous young things in their 18th Century get up, who’re single and ready to mingle too!
Really though, what more could you possibly want?!
Nine: Cool Pink
Gone are the days of Hot Pink; Cool Pink is in! Be it home decor (we’re talking super chill sofas, and subtle accents) or personal style, this washed out, über cool colour is just everywhere, and we are converted.
This is my kinda pink.
It’s soft on the eyes. Suggestive, yet subtly feminine. So muted it’s basically a nude. And honestly, chic AF.
Ten: Door Downloads
So I was wandering round the internet, as you do, pondering number 10 for today, when I landed on the gorgeous US blog the House that Lars Built and fell head over heels all over again!
It’s such a beautiful lifestyle blog full of ideas, inspiration, fun DIYs and THIS beautiful digital download: the world’s cutest door hanger!
And I just thought, ‘Everyone loves a very simple little DIY, let’s give them a project for the weekend!’
So here it is! Your weekend printable, double-sided, utterly adorable door hanger! Perfect for house guests, parents (?!) or for your next hotel stay!
I hope you babes have enjoyed this one – I had a baller time putting it together for you and it feels so good to share all these ideas with you!
